What is a wireless router?
In the not too distant past, the word “router” would have typically been confined to conversation between network administrators or “techie types”. With the huge uptake of high-speed internet, file sharing and media streaming wireless routers have moved into many homes and almost become a consumer device.
From the average person on the street a wireless router is usually used to allow them to connect to the internet from their PC or Laptop, without physically being plugged into the wall. So particularly with a laptop, this gives you the freedom to “roam” around your home without having to physically plug yourself into the router.
Obviously, the fact that you can connect to the internet wirelessly, means that you don’t have to have cables running through your home that you need to hook up to. So, if you fancy doing a bit of surfing at the bottom of your garden, connecting to the internet via a wireless router becomes a reality.
